Difference between Pulsed and CW laser cleaners

Laser cleaners in version pulsed up to 500 W and those continuous (CW) up to 3 kW. They have different characteristics and applications. Here are the main advantages of pulsed systems compared to higher-power CW systems:

1. Lower heat input and no damage to the substrate

  • Pulsed lasers generate high-energy pulses for short durations (nanoseconds or microseconds), allowing for the selective removal of contaminants without overheating the underlying material.
  • 3 kW CW (Continuous Wave) lasers, on the other hand, deliver a constant flow of energy that can easily overheat and damage delicate surfaces.

2. Greater precision and selectivity

  • Pulsed laser cleaners are ideal for cleaning oxides, paints, rust and contaminants without damaging the substrate, perfect for sensitive materials such as aluminum, light alloys or complex surfaces.
  • CW lasers, being more aggressive, are more suitable for removing thick layers but with less selective control.

3. Wider applications in industrial and artistic fields

  • Pulsed lasers are used for cleaning historical artifacts, industrial molds, aerospace components, and precision surface treatments.
  • CW lasers are best suited for applications such as welding, cutting, or removing very thick coatings.

Conclusion

If the goal is a gentle, selective and damage-free cleaning, the cleaners pulsed lasers up to 500 W are the best choice. If you need it, however quickly remove large amounts of material without worrying about the substrate, then a 3 kW CW laser it might be more appropriate.

Thanks to pulsed laser technology, graffiti can be removed selectively without damaging the objects being cleaned.

Using a pulsed laser cleaner to remove paint from shutters, doors, windows, and other fixtures is incredibly quick and easy. Unlike acid stripping, lasers can only strip paint from one side, eliminating the need to repaint both sides of the window.
